The patients are convinced that they are harboring parasites and usually bring “specimens” to prove infestation. These bits of material or skin must be examined to rule out a true infestation and to assure the patient of your interest in the problem. More than half of these patients have no visible skin lesions. Those with active lesions have excoriated, crusted papules secondary to picking. Illicit drug addiction should also be ruled out. ABSTRACT: Neurodermatitis is a chronic disease affecting the patient's psychosocial status and quality of life. It is associated with a variety of psychologic problems, including demoralization, depression, anxiety, obsessive‐compulsive disorder, and sleep disturbances. Coexistence of sexual dysfunction, especially in women, with several systemic diseases has gained interest in recent years. In this study, we evaluated sexual function in female patients with neurodermatitis. We enrolled 89 women (43 patients, 46 controls) in the study. Quality of life was assessed with the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) was used to determine sexual function. Individuals with psychiatric disorders and/or those using antidepressants were excluded. The total DLQI score was 11.95 ± 5.65 in patients with neurodermatitis. The total FSFI score was significantly lower in patients compared with healthy controls (22.76 ± 5.31 and 28.83 ± 3.50, respectively; P = .001). Domain scores of FSFI (desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, and satisfaction) except pain were significantly lower in patients with neurodermatitis (P = .001). The pain score was also lower in patients than controls, but the difference was not statistically significant (P = .073). Neurodermatitis may be associated with sexual dysfunction, and patients with neurodermatitis should be evaluated with regard to sexual function to provide a better quality of life. As shown in Table Table3,3, 7.4% of patients with neurodermatitis compared with 18.7% of the psoriasis scored ≥21, and respectively 28.2% compared with 39.4% scored between 11 and 20, 32.9% compared with 22.8% scored between 6 and 10. In the psoriasis group, 16.3% scored between 2 and 5, and 2.8% scored between 0 and 1. Scores for the DLQI of both groups are given in Tables Tables44 and and5.5. Patients with neurodermatitis scored significantly lower for all items (P < 0.001) except Q1 (symptoms) and Q9 (sexual difficulties). Among patients with neurodermatitis, the lowest score was for Q3 (shopping), Q6 (sport) and Q8 (relationships), while the highest score was for Q1 (symptoms). Scores for six domains of DLQI were compared also; neurodermatitis scored significantly lower for all domains except domain1 (symptoms and feelings). All lesions in the patients were localized on their backs, where neurodermatitis lesions are commonly seen. We wanted to eliminate the localization factor from sexual function and evaluate the impacts of this skin disease alone on sexual function. Therefore, patients with anogenital localization were excluded from this study. Routine blood count, biochemistry, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and urinalysis were performed for each participant. The functional integrity of the hypothalamo‐pituitary‐gonadal axis was examined in all participants by measuring the levels of follicle‐stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, estradiol, free testosterone, prolactin, and sex hormone–binding globulin. Participants suffering from pulmonary, hepatic, hematologic, renal, and endocrine diseases such as diabetes mellitus, as well as thyroid function disorders and inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, were excluded from the study. Other exclusion criteria included pregnancy and gynecologic and systemic disorders that might affect female sexual function such as hormonal, muscular, neurologic, or cardiovascular diseases and psychologic disorders. Participants on antidepressants and other drugs that are known to interfere with sexual function and postmenopausal women receiving oral or vaginal estrogen therapy for the prevention of climacteric symptoms or vaginal dryness were also excluded from the study. scaling Schuppung Funding and Disclosures Leather Edition: ENGLISH Pet Care Essentials About This Site Analyzes for hormones SHOP PRODUCTS HEALTHY HAIR & SCALP WHAT'S NEW OFFERS & COUPONS CLINICALLY PROVEN SOLUTION ABOUT Submit a Manuscript Contact form 2019 AAD election FeNO Tests to Monitor FeNO Levels Advertisements on this site do not constitute a guarantee or endorsement by the journal, Association, or publisher of the quality or value of such product or of the claims made for it by its manufacturer. There is no cure, but many treatments can help improve the skin's condition, making life easier.
