The impact of neurodermatits and psoriasisi on sexual function had been studied previously. Inconsistent with our data, Mercan S found that neurodermatitis patients had more sexual problems than the psoriasis counterpart12. The difference may be due to the sample size. There were only 31 patients with neurodermatitis and 24 patients with psoriasis, while the counterpart in our study are 149 and 246 respectively. Another comment is related to the questionnaire applied in the survey. DLQI was applied in our study while Arizona Sexual Experience Scale in Mercan's study. Although DLQI has question(Q9) about sexual life, it do not specifically evaluate sexual problems. Gender-specific sexual function scales and proper sample size will be needed in future study. Neurodermatitis may also have negative effects on the patient's quality of life and sexual life because it affects self‐perception and social relationships of the patients. We propose that a biopsychosocial approach to management is very important in patients with neurodermatitis and that they should be also assessed with regard to sexual function to provide a better quality of life. Evaluating practice models CIU & You Psoriasis ABSTRACT: Neurodermatitis is a chronic disease affecting the patient's psychosocial status and quality of life. It is associated with a variety of psychologic problems, including demoralization, depression, anxiety, obsessive‐compulsive disorder, and sleep disturbances. Coexistence of sexual dysfunction, especially in women, with several systemic diseases has gained interest in recent years. In this study, we evaluated sexual function in female patients with neurodermatitis. We enrolled 89 women (43 patients, 46 controls) in the study. Quality of life was assessed with the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) was used to determine sexual function. Individuals with psychiatric disorders and/or those using antidepressants were excluded. The total DLQI score was 11.95 ± 5.65 in patients with neurodermatitis. The total FSFI score was significantly lower in patients compared with healthy controls (22.76 ± 5.31 and 28.83 ± 3.50, respectively; P = .001). Domain scores of FSFI (desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, and satisfaction) except pain were significantly lower in patients with neurodermatitis (P = .001). The pain score was also lower in patients than controls, but the difference was not statistically significant (P = .073). Neurodermatitis may be associated with sexual dysfunction, and patients with neurodermatitis should be evaluated with regard to sexual function to provide a better quality of life. This condition is associated with many factors, including the scratch-itch cycle, psychological stressors, and atopy. LSC is more common between ages 35 and 50 and is seen approximately twice as often in women compared to men.[3] PREVIOUS QUESTION: Quick Takes Certain factors may affect your risk of neurodermatitis, including: Alerts & Recalls What is Deep Vein Thrombosis? Results: The overall mean DLQI score for neurodermatits (9.34) was lower than that for psoriasis (13.32) (P < 0.001). Patients with neurodermatitis scored significantly lower for all items except Q1 (symptoms) and Q9 (sexual difficulties). No strong relationship between disease-related characteristics and quality of life could be found. The inter-item correlation averaged 0.415 and Cronbach's alpha was 0.889, indicating high internal consistency. Salimi M, Barlow JL, Saunders SP, Xue L, Gutowska-Owsiak D, Wang X, et al. Delusions of parasitosis occur in disturbed or anxious eccentric individuals. This disorder begins as intractable pruritus with a crawling sensation in the skin. The patients are convinced that they are harboring parasites and usually bring “specimens” to prove infestation. These bits of material or skin must be examined to rule out a true infestation and to assure the patient of your interest in the problem. More than half of these patients have no visible skin lesions. Those with active lesions have excoriated, crusted papules secondary to picking. Illicit drug addiction should also be ruled out.
