QoL of most of (32.9%) our patients were moderate affected. The mean DLQI score in our study was 9.34, which was lower than previous report. Ermertcan AT found that DLQI score for patients in Turkey was 11.951. It can be explained by the limitation of patient selection. Patients included in the previous study were female only. In studies evaluating patients with chronic conditions, women consistently report poorer QoL than men7. Women were reported more pain8, more physical and psychological impairments9. Moreover, cases enrolled in the previous study were 43. When QoL affected by a specific entity was discussed, enough sample size will be more representative. Rhinitis Published online 2013 Mar 16. doi:  10.7150/ijms.5624 Neurodermatitis, also known as lichen simplex chronicus, is a common chronic skin disease, affecting up to 12% of the total population, and women are more affected than men1. The disease is characterized by lichenificated plaque as a result of excessive scratching. Neck, elbow, ankles, vulva, eyelid even faces are the most common affected sites. Although neurodermatitis is not life-threatening, it can produce an important psychosocial burden. It has been suggested that patients with neurodermatitis suffer from depression, anxiety and other treatable psychological disorders2. Negative emotional states are the main personality component of patients (greater tendency to pain avoidance, greater dependency on other peoples' desires, and more conforming and dutiful)3. Patients with neurodermatitis tend to have poor social skills or interpersonal resources and a lack of flexibility. Neurodermatitis may be associated with sleep disturbance and sexual dysfunction4. All these data constitute a growing body of evidence indicating a negative impact of neurodermatitis on patients' quality of life (QoL). Fox Award and Lectureship Patients with atopic dermatitis need safe and effective long-term treatments. Previous studies have suggested benefits with dupilumab: a human monoclonal antibody against interleukin (IL)-4 receptor alpha that inhibits signaling of the type 2 cytokines IL-4 and IL-13. Two randomized, placebo-controlled trials of dupilumab for AD are reported. The SOLO 1 and 2 trials included 671 and 708 patients, respectively, with moderate to severe AD that was inadequately controlled by topical medications. Patients were assigned to 16 weeks of treatment with dupilumab, 300 mg given weekly or alternating with placebo every other week; or placebo given weekly. The primary outcome was a score of 0 or 1 on the Investigator's Global Assessment, indicating clear or almost clear of AD; plus at least a 2-point reduction in the same score from baseline to 16 weeks. The primary outcome was achieved in 37% of patients receiving weekly dupilumab and 38% with dupilumab every other week, compared to 10% with weekly placebo. Results were similar across the two trials. The dupilumab groups were also more likely to achieve at least 75% improvement in the Eczema Area and Severity Index. Other key outcomes were also improved with dupilumab, including pruritus, anxiety and depression symptoms, and quality of life. The main adverse effects of dupilumab were injection site reactions and conjunctivitis. The SOLO 1 and 2 results show significant improvement in AD signs and symptoms with dupilumab over 16 weeks. The benefits appear similar with treatment given weekly or every other week, compared to placebo. Further studies are needed to establish dupilumab's longterm safety and effectiveness. These should be avoided as far as possible.  Ross JS Your name here South Dakota Academy resources for: Dyshidrotic eczema (Medical Encyclopedia) Also in Spanish Permissions Donate Papules, Scales, Plaques and Eruptions Causes & Triggers Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Primary physical findings include the following: Frontiers in Medicine For researchers Check Your Symptoms I have read and accept the Wiley Online Library Terms and Conditions of Use. Two premature babies and one child with multiple anomalies died; one newborn had a unilateral cystic kidney without urine production. In a retrospective analysis of 100 pregnancies with 68 live-born children, there were four with different malformations (Kainz 2000). Retrospective cases report premature twins of 32 weeks’ gestation. Both suffered from cardiomyopathy, of which one of them died (Vyas 1999). Among nine tacrolimus-exposed pregnancies, there were two with a small ventricular septal defect (Nagy 2003). An otherwise healthy premature baby who was exposed in utero to tacrolimus and mycophenolate mofetil demonstrated hypoplastic fingernails and short fifth fingers on both hands (Pergola 2001). There are rare case reports on the use of tacrolimus during pregnancy for other indications, such as refractory inflammatory bowel disease (Baumgart 2005). Focal zones of parakeratosis are sometimes interspersed with the orthokeratosis, but there is not the confluent parakeratosis of psoriasis. The epidermis shows psoriasiform hyperplasia with thicker rete ridges of less even length than in psoriasis. Epidermal thickness and volume are greater than in psoriasis. Minimal papillomatosis is sometimes present in a few areas. Focal excoriation is another change that may be seen in lichen simplex chronicus.
