All lesions in the patients were localized on their backs, where neurodermatitis lesions are commonly seen. We wanted to eliminate the localization factor from sexual function and evaluate the impacts of this skin disease alone on sexual function. Therefore, patients with anogenital localization were excluded from this study. Routine blood count, biochemistry, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and urinalysis were performed for each participant. The functional integrity of the hypothalamo‐pituitary‐gonadal axis was examined in all participants by measuring the levels of follicle‐stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, estradiol, free testosterone, prolactin, and sex hormone–binding globulin. Participants suffering from pulmonary, hepatic, hematologic, renal, and endocrine diseases such as diabetes mellitus, as well as thyroid function disorders and inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, were excluded from the study. Other exclusion criteria included pregnancy and gynecologic and systemic disorders that might affect female sexual function such as hormonal, muscular, neurologic, or cardiovascular diseases and psychologic disorders. Participants on antidepressants and other drugs that are known to interfere with sexual function and postmenopausal women receiving oral or vaginal estrogen therapy for the prevention of climacteric symptoms or vaginal dryness were also excluded from the study. There are many causes of red, oozing and crusted nipples recognized by dermatologists, including psoriasis, seborrhoeic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, neurodermatitis and atopic dermatitis. It is particularly common in atopic patients. Scabies and chronic friction require exclusion. Chronic infection, e.g. with Staphylococcus aureus or Candida, can persist in the moist, traumatized conditions of breastfeeding and can give rise to unusual clinical and histological appearances. Neurodermatitis, also referred to as lichen simplex chronicus, is a condition where the nerve endings of the skin become so irritated that excessive scratching and itching occurs. Insect bites and emotional stress are the two most prevalent causes of the lichen simplex. You are reporting a typo in the following text: Atopic dermatitis is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease that is characterized by intense pruritus and eczematous lesions.17 The Th2 cytokines IL-4 and IL-13 are key drivers involved with the underlying inflammatory process.1 Silverman R Children's Vaccines Nakamura K The Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) was used to assess sexual function. It is a self‐reported measure of sexual function that has been validated on a clinically diagnosed sample of women with female sexual arousal disorder. The questionnaire is composed of 19 items divided into 6 domains that include desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain. Each item is scored on a scale of 0 (or 1) to 5 (range for items 1, 2, 15, and 16 is 1–5), and each domain is scored with the total of the items (maximum scores 10–20) (Rosen et al, 2000). Higher scores indicate better function, and a domain score of zero indicates no sexual activity during the past month. Two premature babies and one child with multiple anomalies died; one newborn had a unilateral cystic kidney without urine production. In a retrospective analysis of 100 pregnancies with 68 live-born children, there were four with different malformations (Kainz 2000). Retrospective cases report premature twins of 32 weeks’ gestation. Both suffered from cardiomyopathy, of which one of them died (Vyas 1999). Among nine tacrolimus-exposed pregnancies, there were two with a small ventricular septal defect (Nagy 2003). An otherwise healthy premature baby who was exposed in utero to tacrolimus and mycophenolate mofetil demonstrated hypoplastic fingernails and short fifth fingers on both hands (Pergola 2001). There are rare case reports on the use of tacrolimus during pregnancy for other indications, such as refractory inflammatory bowel disease (Baumgart 2005). According to modern concepts, neurodermatitis is the genetically determined disease with multifactorial inheritance of predisposition to allergic reactions. Importance of genetic factors is confirmed by a high rate of disease among close relatives and monozygotic twins. According to an immunogenetic study, neurodermatitis is significantly associated with HLA B-12 and DR4. Next ArticleLaboratory diagnosis Oh yes, they certainly are! Topical corticosteroids (TCS) are the main ointments used for treatment, but there is a risk of side‐effects with their use, such as skin thinning. A class of drugs called topical calcineurin inhibitors, which include topical tacrolimus (and pimecrolimus), might provide an alternative to this problem, but since tacrolimus is a newer ointment compared with corticosteroids, there are still some questions about its effectiveness and safety.
