For example, chronic stress, major depression, schizophrenia, or anorexia nervosa seem to be associated with a hyperactive HPA axis, whereas a hyporeactive HPA axis is found more often in CFS, autoimmune processes, or PTSD. Since there are only few longitudinal data available to date on the relationship between HPA activity and stress-related disorders, the question of cause and effect remains to be answered in future research. Lichen simplex chronicus (LSC) (also known as neurodermatitis[1]) is a skin disorder characterized by chronic itching and scratching.[2] The constant scratching causes thick, leathery, darkened, (lichenified) skin. This condition is associated with many factors, including the scratch-itch cycle, psychological stressors, and atopy. LSC is more common between ages 35 and 50 and is seen approximately twice as often in women compared to men.[3] These triggers are less frequesnt but could result in a neurodermatitis attack: in India Kindle Direct Publishing J Allergy Clin Immunol. 2001; 108: 275-280 The next possible method to push the improvement forward would be to bleed distally, either on finger- or toe-tip or jing-well point of meridian where the psoriasis is present, or on a vein that is distal to the lesion but still along the same longitudinal line. According to question 9 of the DLQI, sexual function was affected in our patients with neurodermatitis. When we looked at the total and individual scores from the FSFI, the total score was significantly decreased in female patients with neurodermatitis compared with that in controls. Analyses of each domain showed that scores for desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, and satisfaction were significantly decreased in these patients. The pain score was also lower in the patient group than in the control group, although the difference was not statistically significant. As observed in Niemeier et al (1997) and Mercan et al (2008), we conclude that neurodermatitis often results in sexual dysfunction. We also conclude that neurodermatitis has effects particularly on the desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, and satisfaction components of sexual function in female patients. Food allergy. Part 1: immunopathogenesis and clinical disorders. Truth in advertising Daily news summary Scopus (263) Factors affecting skin barrier function might influence the risk of atopic dermatitis (AD). Previous reports have suggested higher rates of AD in areas with so-called hard water and among children born in fall or winter. This study looked for a possible synergistic relationship between these two AD risk factors. The researchers analyzed data on nearly 53,000 children from the Danish National Birth Cohort. National data sources were used to gather birth data and information on domestic water hardness, which differs across Danish regions. Physician diagnosis of AD and other characteristics were assessed in parental interviews when the children were 6 and 18 months old. Overall prevalence of AD was 15.0%. Prevalence ranged from 13.5% to 17.1% in regions with the softest versus hardest domestic water; relative prevalence of AD increased by 5% per 5-degree increase in water hardness. Hard water accounted for an estimated 2% of the population risk of AD. Relative prevalence of AD was 24% higher for children born in fall and 18% higher for those born in winter. There was no evidence of interaction between season of birth and water hardness. Both hard domestic water and fall/winter birth are associated with a higher prevalence of AD in early childhood. Risk of AD increases along with degree of water hardness, but there is no synergistic interaction between these two risk factors. Further studies are needed to see if water softening can reduce AD risk in infants. Acta Derm Venereol. 2001; 81: 418-422 Be the first video Ferri FF. Lichen simplex chronicus.
