Previous studies have suggested benefits with dupilumab: a human monoclonal antibody against interleukin (IL)-4 receptor alpha that inhibits signaling of the type 2 cytokines IL-4 and IL-13. Two randomized, placebo-controlled trials of dupilumab for AD are reported. The SOLO 1 and 2 trials included 671 and 708 patients, respectively, with moderate to severe AD that was inadequately controlled by topical medications. Patients were assigned to 16 weeks of treatment with dupilumab, 300 mg given weekly or alternating with placebo every other week; or placebo given weekly. The primary outcome was a score of 0 or 1 on the Investigator's Global Assessment, indicating clear or almost clear of AD; plus at least a 2-point reduction in the same score from baseline to 16 weeks. The primary outcome was achieved in 37% of patients receiving weekly dupilumab and 38% with dupilumab every other week, compared to 10% with weekly placebo. Results were similar across the two trials. The dupilumab groups were also more likely to achieve at least 75% improvement in the Eczema Area and Severity Index. Other key outcomes were also improved with dupilumab, including pruritus, anxiety and depression symptoms, and quality of life. The main adverse effects of dupilumab were injection site reactions and conjunctivitis. The SOLO 1 and 2 results show significant improvement in AD signs and symptoms with dupilumab over 16 weeks. The benefits appear similar with treatment given weekly or every other week, compared to placebo. Further studies are needed to establish dupilumab's longterm safety and effectiveness. Drugs and Supplements A-Z Sexual function in patients with psoriasis was assessed by Ermertcan et al (2006), who used the FSFI to examine female sexual function and IIEF to examine male sexual function. They found that the total FSFI score was significantly lower in female patients with psoriasis with or without depression compared with healthy controls. The IIEF total score was also significantly lower in male patients with psoriasis when compared with healthy controls. Sexual function in female and male patients with chronic hand eczema was also investigated by Ergun et al (2007). The total FSFI score was significantly decreased in patients with hand eczema. The total FSFI score was significantly lower in female patients with hand eczema with depression than in patients with hand eczema without depression. In men, the total IIEF score was significantly decreased in patients with hand eczema compared with healthy controls. Early onset is often associated with a family history of skin allergies. Vet Approved What Can I Do For My Spring Allergies? Analyzes In AD, transepidermal water loss is increased. Whether the primary immune dysregulation causes secondary epithelial barrier breakdown or primary epithelial barrier breakdown causes secondary immune dysregulation that results in disease remains unknown. However, given the fact that filaggrin is critical for epithelial integrity, it is now thought that loss of filaggrin function leads to increased transepidermal penetration of environmental allergens, increasing inflammation and sensitivity and potentially leading to the atopic march. We found Q1 (symptoms) accounted for 50.80% of the variance in DLQI score in this setting. The scree plot showed a sharp drop in eigenvalues from the first to the second component, with subsequent components extracting progressively less of the variance. This indicated that a one-dimensional solution is to be preferred (Fig. (Fig.1).1). The loadings of the DLQI items are given in Table Table6.6. Kinaciyan T The diagnosis of lichen simplex chronicus is usually obvious in patients who have a localized itching plaque of chronic dermatitis. Chronic contact dermatitis should be considered from a topical medicine used to treat the symptoms. Several more serious “psychodermatoses” are habitual (neurotic) excoriations, factitious dermatitis, and delusions of parasitosis.
