It is associated with a variety of psychologic problems, including demoralization, depression, anxiety, obsessive‐compulsive disorder, and sleep disturbances. Coexistence of sexual dysfunction, especially in women, with several systemic diseases has gained interest in recent years. In this study, we evaluated sexual function in female patients with neurodermatitis. We enrolled 89 women (43 patients, 46 controls) in the study. Quality of life was assessed with the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) was used to determine sexual function. Individuals with psychiatric disorders and/or those using antidepressants were excluded. The total DLQI score was 11.95 ± 5.65 in patients with neurodermatitis. The total FSFI score was significantly lower in patients compared with healthy controls (22.76 ± 5.31 and 28.83 ± 3.50, respectively; P = .001). Domain scores of FSFI (desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, and satisfaction) except pain were significantly lower in patients with neurodermatitis (P = .001). The pain score was also lower in patients than controls, but the difference was not statistically significant (P = .073). Neurodermatitis may be associated with sexual dysfunction, and patients with neurodermatitis should be evaluated with regard to sexual function to provide a better quality of life. The Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) has been used in 33 different skin conditions and is available in 55 languages. DLQI comprises 10 items, giving a sum score ranging between 0 and 306. Ten questions concerning symptoms, embarrassment, shopping/daily activities, clothes, social/leisure, sport, work or study, relationships, sexual difficulties and treatment. High DLQI scores imply low quality of life. The DLQI has been used in cross-sectional studies of different disorders, such as acne, atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. Ten items were explained to all subjects and data collectors helped them to complete the survey questions. I shower most days, but a few times a week I like to take a nice long hot bath. A thick layer of compact orthokeratosis (resembling that seen on normal palms and soles) is present, overlying hypergranulosis. Focal zones of parakeratosis are sometimes interspersed with the orthokeratosis, but there is not the confluent parakeratosis of psoriasis. The epidermis shows psoriasiform hyperplasia with thicker rete ridges of less even length than in psoriasis. Epidermal thickness and volume are greater than in psoriasis. Minimal papillomatosis is sometimes present in a few areas. Focal excoriation is another change that may be seen in lichen simplex chronicus. Scratching will temporarily get rid of the itching but it damages the skin, which in turn encourages itching. The aim of treatment is to break this vicious circle between itching, scratching and deterioration in the skin's appearance. Various measures may be helpful in this situation, e.g. cooling, skin-friendly and breathable fabrics, compresses and dressings with black tea, table salt or ointments. Allergies/intolerances Differential Diagnosis The itch can be intermittent, but also so intense that the affected person scratches or rubs the itchy patch frequently. The intensity is especially when the person is relaxing or sleeping, which can cause sleep deprivation. For example, chronic stress, major depression, schizophrenia, or anorexia nervosa seem to be associated with a hyperactive HPA axis, whereas a hyporeactive HPA axis is found more often in CFS, autoimmune processes, or PTSD. Since there are only few longitudinal data available to date on the relationship between HPA activity and stress-related disorders, the question of cause and effect remains to be answered in future research. Previous reports have suggested higher rates of AD in areas with so-called hard water and among children born in fall or winter. This study looked for a possible synergistic relationship between these two AD risk factors. The researchers analyzed data on nearly 53,000 children from the Danish National Birth Cohort. National data sources were used to gather birth data and information on domestic water hardness, which differs across Danish regions. Physician diagnosis of AD and other characteristics were assessed in parental interviews when the children were 6 and 18 months old. Overall prevalence of AD was 15.0%. Prevalence ranged from 13.5% to 17.1% in regions with the softest versus hardest domestic water; relative prevalence of AD increased by 5% per 5-degree increase in water hardness. Hard water accounted for an estimated 2% of the population risk of AD. Relative prevalence of AD was 24% higher for children born in fall and 18% higher for those born in winter. There was no evidence of interaction between season of birth and water hardness. Both hard domestic water and fall/winter birth are associated with a higher prevalence of AD in early childhood. Risk of AD increases along with degree of water hardness, but there is no synergistic interaction between these two risk factors. Further studies are needed to see if water softening can reduce AD risk in infants. Leisure 1.00 0.00-2.00 2.00 1.00-4.00 < 0.001 Diseases & Conditions Stasis Dermatitis How Does Chemo Work? Moreover, sexual dysfunction may also cause significant personal distress and negatively impact quality of life (Thaipisuttikul, 1998; Abeck, 2005; Chuh et al, 2006; Burgin, 2008). In our study, we used the DLQI to evaluate the quality of life of patients. The mean DLQI score of 11.95 is similar to the mean scores of 11.20 and 10.53 reported for atopic dermatitis and psoriasis, respectively (Basra et al, 2008). The scores on question 9 of the DLQI showed that neurodermatitis affected sexual function in our patients. Consistent with this observation, previous studies have revealed a higher prevalence of sexual dysfunction in patients with chronic pain (Monga et al, 1998; Ambler et al, 2001). Sexual dysfunction in female patients with fibromyalgia has been demonstrated (Tikiz et al, 2005), and sexual status and erectile dysfunction in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease have been suggested (Koseoglu et al, 2005). Sexual dysfunction studies on other systemic diseases, such as diabetes mellitus, chronic liver disease, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, epilepsy, chronic renal failure, and multiple sclerosis have also been performed (Ermertcan, 2009).
