Cronbach's alpha (scale reliability coefficient) for the DLQI score was 0.889, and the standardized item alpha was 0.890, both considerably higher than the traditional threshold of 0.7, indicating a high degree of internal reliability of the score. The average inter-item correlation was 0.415 (>0.2), suggesting good reliability. The item-total correlation ranged from 0.483 to 0.711. The average item-total correlation was 0.628. Genetic predisposition, environmental factors as well as inflammation taking place in the skin play a role. This reduced skin barrier is caused by a deficiency, an imbalance or defective functioning of substances (e.g. proteins or fats) that are responsible for the formation of the upper layer of the skin. As a result, more water evaporates and the skin becomes dry. In addition, the skin becomes more permeable to allergens and other environmental substances. These can trigger inflammatory reactions.  Atopic dermatitis - children - homecare (Medical Encyclopedia) Also in Spanish Agata Kurek, Eva M.J. Heat DLQI scores of patients with neurodermatitis was lower than that with psoriasis. Interestingly, we find there are no differences between Q1(symptoms) and Q9(sexual difficulties) when ten items are compared. Severe itching is a prominent feature of neurodermatitis, however psoriasis patients suffer from intensive itching are rarely concerned. Consistent with our finding, Szepietowski JC found that itching was found in 80% of psoriatic patients recently11. The presence and intensity of itching did not depend on age, gender, type of psoriasis, and duration of disease. Email Angioedema Further, filaggrin mutations are associated with early-onset AD and with airway disease in the setting of AD. [20] One mechanism by which filaggrin defects may influence inflammation is by the release of epithelial cell‒derived cytokines, including TSLP, IL-25, and IL-33, which are all known to be up-regulated in the context of AD. [21, 22, 23, 24] TSLP has been shown to be a potent promoter of basophil and ILC2 responses in the skin, while IL-25 and IL-33 preferentially elicit ILC2s. [12, 13, 16] Although filaggrin is strongly linked to AD, mutations are only found in 30% of European patients, begging the question of whether other genetic variants may also be responsible for some of the findings in the pathogenesis of AD. Indeed, genetic variants of TSLP have been shown to interact with mutations in filaggrin to influence AD disease persistence in patients. [25] Migraine or HeadacheWhat's the Difference? Sign in Academy Peripheral eosinophilia Also known as neurodermatitis, lichen simplex chronicus is a localized pruritic eruption that results from chronic scratching and rubbing, eventuating in a scratch–itch–scratch cycle. Clinically, lesions appear erythematous or hyperpigmented, lichenified and scaly. High-potency topical steroids are often required to break the cycle. Steroid-impregnated tape, such as flurandrenolide (Cordran), applied at bedtime or after bathing and left in place for up to12 hours, also protects the lesions from being scratched. When symptoms improve, the potency of the steroid and the frequency of use can be reduced. Topical doxepin relieves pruritus and also helps break the cycle, but systemic absorption and drowsiness sometimes limit its use. If applicable, lesions can be covered with dressings, such as an Unna boot, to prevent the patient from scratching. More nodular lesions are termed prurigo nodularis, or picker’s nodules. and influential source of Scalabrin DM Wadsworth J Puls-Sendung in: Bieber T , Leung DYM (Eds.)
