Swiss Allergy Centre Email/Username: Scabies Allergischer Schock nach Erdnussgenuss Factors affecting skin barrier function might influence the risk of atopic dermatitis (AD). Previous reports have suggested higher rates of AD in areas with so-called hard water and among children born in fall or winter. This study looked for a possible synergistic relationship between these two AD risk factors. The researchers analyzed data on nearly 53,000 children from the Danish National Birth Cohort. National data sources were used to gather birth data and information on domestic water hardness, which differs across Danish regions. Physician diagnosis of AD and other characteristics were assessed in parental interviews when the children were 6 and 18 months old. Overall prevalence of AD was 15.0%. Prevalence ranged from 13.5% to 17.1% in regions with the softest versus hardest domestic water; relative prevalence of AD increased by 5% per 5-degree increase in water hardness. Hard water accounted for an estimated 2% of the population risk of AD. Relative prevalence of AD was 24% higher for children born in fall and 18% higher for those born in winter. There was no evidence of interaction between season of birth and water hardness. Both hard domestic water and fall/winter birth are associated with a higher prevalence of AD in early childhood. Risk of AD increases along with degree of water hardness, but there is no synergistic interaction between these two risk factors. Further studies are needed to see if water softening can reduce AD risk in infants. Already a print subscriber? Preceding the eruption, the patient has a pruritic area of skin that is scratched, producing a plaque of chronic dermatitis. Back Email 2008;358(14): 1483-1494. © 2016 Massachusetts Medical Society. Due to the expanded clinical use of pimecrolimus, a review of both the evidence of its efficacy and of its potential economic evaluation is of importance for a more evidence- based clinical and policy decision making process. This is particularly relevant in reference to three clinical conditions: adult atopic dermatitis, adult seborrheic dermatitis, and adult psoriasis. Article Outline Habitual (neurotic) excoriations Subscription Options Further, filaggrin mutations are associated with early-onset AD and with airway disease in the setting of AD. [20] One mechanism by which filaggrin defects may influence inflammation is by the release of epithelial cell‒derived cytokines, including TSLP, IL-25, and IL-33, which are all known to be up-regulated in the context of AD. [21, 22, 23, 24] TSLP has been shown to be a potent promoter of basophil and ILC2 responses in the skin, while IL-25 and IL-33 preferentially elicit ILC2s. [12, 13, 16] Although filaggrin is strongly linked to AD, mutations are only found in 30% of European patients, begging the question of whether other genetic variants may also be responsible for some of the findings in the pathogenesis of AD. Indeed, genetic variants of TSLP have been shown to interact with mutations in filaggrin to influence AD disease persistence in patients. Neurodermatitis has a typical morphological element, it is papule, an appearance of which severe pruritus is preceded. Due to the grouping of papules skin in the folds becomes infiltrated with the pronounced intensification of a picture (lichenification). Color of foci is stagnantly red. Lichenification foci become rougher, dichromatic. Jump up ^ Konuk, Numan; Koca, Rafet; Atik, Levent; Muhtar, Sennur; Atasoy, Nuray; Bostanci, Bora (2007-05-01).
