Plaques are symmetrically arranged delimitating relatively clearly from unaffected skin by the area of hyperpigmentation. In focus areas skin is dry, infiltrated, with an exaggerated picture, more pronounced in the center. On the periphery of foci small (pinhead) polygonal flat papules with a glossy surface of a brownish-red or pink color are located. Amazon Currency Converter Human epithelial cells trigger dendritic cell mediated allergic inflammation by producing TSLP. Allergies Kinetic studies in lichen simplex chronicus have shown epidermal cell proliferation similar to that seen in psoriasis although the transit time of the cells is not as fast. There is also an increase in mitochondrial enzymes in keratinocytes and in the number of melanocytes in the basal layer. Although these kinetic aspects are known, there is still no explanation for the pathogenesis of these plaques and the underlying pruritus; it is apparent, however, that self-induced trauma plays an important localizing role. ABSTRACT: Neurodermatitis is a chronic disease affecting the patient's psychosocial status and quality of life. It is associated with a variety of psychologic problems, including demoralization, depression, anxiety, obsessive‐compulsive disorder, and sleep disturbances. Coexistence of sexual dysfunction, especially in women, with several systemic diseases has gained interest in recent years. In this study, we evaluated sexual function in female patients with neurodermatitis. We enrolled 89 women (43 patients, 46 controls) in the study. Quality of life was assessed with the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) was used to determine sexual function. Individuals with psychiatric disorders and/or those using antidepressants were excluded. The total DLQI score was 11.95 ± 5.65 in patients with neurodermatitis. The total FSFI score was significantly lower in patients compared with healthy controls (22.76 ± 5.31 and 28.83 ± 3.50, respectively; P = .001). Domain scores of FSFI (desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, and satisfaction) except pain were significantly lower in patients with neurodermatitis (P = .001). The pain score was also lower in patients than controls, but the difference was not statistically significant (P = .073). Neurodermatitis may be associated with sexual dysfunction, and patients with neurodermatitis should be evaluated with regard to sexual function to provide a better quality of life. It is associated with a variety of psychologic problems, including demoralization, depression, anxiety, obsessive‐compulsive disorder, and sleep disturbances (Burgin, 2008). It may also have negative effects on the patient's quality of life (Abeck, 2005; Chuh et al, 2006). There are few reports about sexual function disorders associated with skin diseases (Türel Ermertcan et al, 2006; Ergun et al, 2007; Sukan and Maner, 2007; Mercan et al, 2008; Ermertcan, 2009). Poster abstract: No commercial support identified. People burdened with LSC report pruritus, followed by uncontrollable scratching of the same body region, excessively.[2] Most common sites of LSC are the sides of the neck, the scalp, ankles, vulva, pubis, scrotum, and extensor sides of the forearms.[3] However, due to the stigma associated with chronic scratching, some patients will not admit to chronic rubbing or abrasion. The skin may become thickened and hyperpigmented (lichenified) as a direct result of chronic exoriation.[3] Typically this period of increased scratching is associated with stressors. They are more suitable for use when the patient has Liver-Yin and Blood deficiency, and disturbance of the Liver-Wind, such as seen in pruritus in elderly people, skin diseases starting or worsening in stressful situations, itchy rashes in the evening, in the night or after menstruation, and chronic skin diseases. Since external Wind and internal Wind often coexist—for instance, the itch may not only be worse in the above conditions, but also when the weather changes, after taking spicy food or during cold infections—therefore substances that expel external Wind and those that extinguish internal Wind can be used together. Sometimes in the areas of scratching depigmentation develops. In the presence of pronounced infiltration and lichenification, hypertrophic warty foci of lesions can occur. Changes like those of lichen simplex chronicus may be superimposed on other dermatoses such as lichen planus (hypertrophic lichen planus), mycosis fungoides, actinic reticuloid, and eczematous dermatitides including atopic dermatitis. These changes are particularly prominent in some solar keratoses of the hands or forearms.
