This itch-scratch cycle causes the affected skin to become thick and leathery. You may develop several itchy spots, typically on the neck, wrist, forearm, thigh or ankle. There is no cure, but many treatments can help improve the skin's condition, making life easier. In those for whom these treatments do not work well or who fear their long‐term effects, there is often a belief that either something in their diet, or something missing in their diet, is making their eczema worse. Hugo S One of the most serious complications, which can accompany neurodermatitis, is Kaposi's varicelliform eruption, due to which lethality ranges from 1.6 to 30% among children. The causative agent is the herpes simplex virus, especially of type 1, which causes damage to the upper respiratory tract and skin around the nose and mouth. Virus of the type 2 is less common, it affects mucous membranes and skin of genital organs. The disease begins acutely in 5-7 days after the contact with an ill person with herpes simplex and is manifested by chills, body temperature up to 40°C, weakness, adynamics, prostration. After 1-3 days rashes of small, to the size of a pinhead, bubbles, filled with serous, less commonly with hemorrhagic content appear. Later bubbles turn into pustules and acquire a typical appearance from navel like impression in the center. In the evolution of the elements bleeding erosions are formed, their surface is covered with hemorrhagic crusts. Patient's face acquires "mask-like" appearance. The lesion of mucous membranes proceeds as aphthous stomatitis, conjunctivitis, and keratoconjunctivitis. Skin of eyelids, lips, hands and feet is frequently affected. In contrast to the Vidal’s disease, it develops mainly in childhood, often combined with other manifestations of atopy that affords grounds for consideration the disease as atopic neurodermatitis in these cases. Sometimes cataract (Andogsky syndrome), often ordinary ichthyosis are detected. In children, skin lesion of the type of eczema neurodermatitis may be a manifestation of Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome, an inherited recessive, coherent with X-chromosome and in addition, manifesting by thrombocytopenia, hemorrhagic diathesis, dysglobulinemia, an increased risk of development of infectious and malignant diseases, first of all, of lymphatic histiocytic system. It is associated with a variety of psychologic problems, including demoralization, depression, anxiety, obsessive‐compulsive disorder, and sleep disturbances. Coexistence of sexual dysfunction, especially in women, with several systemic diseases has gained interest in recent years. In this study, we evaluated sexual function in female patients with neurodermatitis. We enrolled 89 women (43 patients, 46 controls) in the study. Quality of life was assessed with the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) was used to determine sexual function. Individuals with psychiatric disorders and/or those using antidepressants were excluded. The total DLQI score was 11.95 ± 5.65 in patients with neurodermatitis. The total FSFI score was significantly lower in patients compared with healthy controls (22.76 ± 5.31 and 28.83 ± 3.50, respectively; P = .001). Domain scores of FSFI (desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, and satisfaction) except pain were significantly lower in patients with neurodermatitis (P = .001). The pain score was also lower in patients than controls, but the difference was not statistically significant (P = .073). Neurodermatitis may be associated with sexual dysfunction, and patients with neurodermatitis should be evaluated with regard to sexual function to provide a better quality of life. By age 20, approximately half of the patients had experienced at least one 6-month symptom- and medication-free period.
