It was intended to refer to localized circumscribed patches of lichenified skin associated with itching. Without proper knowledge of its etiology or its appearance it can be confused with many other conditions, resulting in poor management. The authors characterize the diagnosis as it was intended and give a capsule description of its appearance, differential diagnosis, prognosis and management. … ein Kater? weiter The most twisty, addictive and gripping debut thriller you'll read this year. We enrolled 89 female participants, including 43 patients with neurodermatitis who were consecutively admitted to the dermatology department and 46 healthy, sexually active volunteers as a control group. All participants were married and reported that they had only 1 sexual partner. The study was approved by our institution. All participants volunteered to participate in this study and gave informed consent after the objectives and methods of the study were explained. National Eczema Association. Neurodermatitis. Lichen simplex chronicus, also known as neurodermatitis circumscripta, is a very common chronic skin disease (present in up to 12% of the population) that is more often seen in women (Thaipisuttikul, 1998; Burgin, 2008; Stander and Metze, 2009). It is associated with a variety of psychologic problems, including demoralization, depression, anxiety, obsessive‐compulsive disorder, and sleep disturbances (Burgin, 2008). It may also have negative effects on the patient's quality of life (Abeck, 2005; Chuh et al, 2006). There are few reports about sexual function disorders associated with skin diseases (Türel Ermertcan et al, 2006; Ergun et al, 2007; Sukan and Maner, 2007; Mercan et al, 2008; Ermertcan, 2009). In this study, we compared the sexual function in female patients with neurodermatitis with that in healthy controls. J Allergy Clin Immunol. 2000; 105: 860-876 ABSTRACT: Neurodermatitis is a chronic disease affecting the patient's psychosocial status and quality of life. It is associated with a variety of psychologic problems, including demoralization, depression, anxiety, obsessive‐compulsive disorder, and sleep disturbances. Coexistence of sexual dysfunction, especially in women, with several systemic diseases has gained interest in recent years. In this study, we evaluated sexual function in female patients with neurodermatitis. We enrolled 89 women (43 patients, 46 controls) in the study. Quality of life was assessed with the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) was used to determine sexual function. Individuals with psychiatric disorders and/or those using antidepressants were excluded. The total DLQI score was 11.95 ± 5.65 in patients with neurodermatitis. The total FSFI score was significantly lower in patients compared with healthy controls (22.76 ± 5.31 and 28.83 ± 3.50, respectively; P = .001). Domain scores of FSFI (desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, and satisfaction) except pain were significantly lower in patients with neurodermatitis (P = .001). The pain score was also lower in patients than controls, but the difference was not statistically significant (P = .073). Neurodermatitis may be associated with sexual dysfunction, and patients with neurodermatitis should be evaluated with regard to sexual function to provide a better quality of life.
