Chronic Pain Leaving to HCP site Seborrheic Dermatitis Overview (American Academy of Dermatology) By the end of the second period, an "atopic face" develops hyperpigmentation and wrinkles in the area of eyelids, imparting the child “tired appearance”. The rest of skin is also changed, but without clinically pronounced inflammation (dryness, dullness, defurfuration, dyschromia, infiltration). Neurodermatitis is characterized by seasonality disease course and is in the development of exacerbations in autumn and winter and a significant improvement or resolution of the process in summer, especially in the conditions of south. Approximately two-thirds of the patients were followed for at least 2 years and the rest were followed for at least 5 years. From ages 2 to 26 years, more than 80% of patients reported having continued symptoms and/or use of topical medications to control symptoms. By age 20, approximately half of the patients had experienced at least one 6-month symptom- and medication-free period. Living in southern states, having a relative with an atopic illness, and exposure to pollen, wool, pets, cigarettes, fumes, some foods or drinks, and soaps/detergents were linked to persistent symptoms. It is associated with a variety of psychologic problems, including demoralization, depression, anxiety, obsessive‐compulsive disorder, and sleep disturbances. Coexistence of sexual dysfunction, especially in women, with several systemic diseases has gained interest in recent years. In this study, we evaluated sexual function in female patients with neurodermatitis. We enrolled 89 women (43 patients, 46 controls) in the study. Quality of life was assessed with the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) was used to determine sexual function. Individuals with psychiatric disorders and/or those using antidepressants were excluded. The total DLQI score was 11.95 ± 5.65 in patients with neurodermatitis. The total FSFI score was significantly lower in patients compared with healthy controls (22.76 ± 5.31 and 28.83 ± 3.50, respectively; P = .001). Domain scores of FSFI (desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, and satisfaction) except pain were significantly lower in patients with neurodermatitis (P = .001). The pain score was also lower in patients than controls, but the difference was not statistically significant (P = .073). Neurodermatitis may be associated with sexual dysfunction, and patients with neurodermatitis should be evaluated with regard to sexual function to provide a better quality of life. Furthermore, it should be emphasized that it must not be treated by waiting ("it would pass with age") and mask (a prescription of only antihistamines and hormonal ointments) treatments. Kaposi varicelliform eruption (eczema herpeticum) is a well-recognized complication of AD. It usually occurs with a primary herpes simplex infection, but it may also be seen with recurrent infection. Vesicular lesions usually begin in areas of eczema and spread rapidly to involve all eczematous areas and healthy skin. Lesions may become secondarily infected. Timely treatment with acyclovir ensures a relative lack of severe morbidity or mortality. Know Your Migraine Triggers Estimated Asthma Prevalence Patients with atopic dermatitis need safe and effective long-term treatments. Previous studies have suggested benefits with dupilumab: a human monoclonal antibody against interleukin (IL)-4 receptor alpha that inhibits signaling of the type 2 cytokines IL-4 and IL-13. Two randomized, placebo-controlled trials of dupilumab for AD are reported. The SOLO 1 and 2 trials included 671 and 708 patients, respectively, with moderate to severe AD that was inadequately controlled by topical medications. Patients were assigned to 16 weeks of treatment with dupilumab, 300 mg given weekly or alternating with placebo every other week; or placebo given weekly. The primary outcome was a score of 0 or 1 on the Investigator's Global Assessment, indicating clear or almost clear of AD; plus at least a 2-point reduction in the same score from baseline to 16 weeks. The primary outcome was achieved in 37% of patients receiving weekly dupilumab and 38% with dupilumab every other week, compared to 10% with weekly placebo. Results were similar across the two trials. The dupilumab groups were also more likely to achieve at least 75% improvement in the Eczema Area and Severity Index. Other key outcomes were also improved with dupilumab, including pruritus, anxiety and depression symptoms, and quality of life. The main adverse effects of dupilumab were injection site reactions and conjunctivitis. The SOLO 1 and 2 results show significant improvement in AD signs and symptoms with dupilumab over 16 weeks. The benefits appear similar with treatment given weekly or every other week, compared to placebo. Further studies are needed to establish dupilumab's longterm safety and effectiveness. Hofer MF Arthritis Wauters EA RECIPIENT’S NAME The causes of neurodermatitis are many and varied. Genetic predisposition, environmental factors as well as inflammation taking place in the skin play a role. This reduced skin barrier is caused by a deficiency, an imbalance or defective functioning of substances (e.g. proteins or fats) that are responsible for the formation of the upper layer of the skin. As a result, more water evaporates and the skin becomes dry. In addition, the skin becomes more permeable to allergens and other environmental substances. These can trigger inflammatory reactions.  Board Prep Plus However, changes in the regulation of the HPA axis can be related to several stress-related disorders. For example, chronic stress, major depression, schizophrenia, or anorexia nervosa seem to be associated with a hyperactive HPA axis, whereas a hyporeactive HPA axis is found more often in CFS, autoimmune processes, or PTSD. Since there are only few longitudinal data available to date on the relationship between HPA activity and stress-related disorders, the question of cause and effect remains to be answered in future research.
