Articles from Canadian Family Physician are provided here courtesy of College of Family Physicians of Canada Neurodermatitis or lichen simplex chronicus is an often symptomatic skin condition, and patients with neurodermatitis may have clinical symptoms such as itching, burning, or stinging. Neurodermatitis may also have negative effects on the patient's quality of life and sexual life because it affects self‐perception and social relationships of the patients. The nearly 30% reduction in pruritus score in the first week of treatment with the anti-IL-31 receptor A antibody nemolizumab in adults with AD shows that this is clinically relevant. The use of targeted biologics (including recent encouraging results with dupilumab) to conquer the itch and improve the lives of individuals with AD is definitely a step in the right direction.
