Although patients living in the rural region were 5.88 times more likely to have a high score when compared with that living in the urban region, the difference was not significance. Scores were not associated with gender, education, duration, employment status and age. Stress is said to be one important parameter, among others, in the manifestation or aggravation of several psychological disturbances, psychosomatic illnesses, and psychiatric disorders, including burnout, anorexia nervosa, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), asthma, neurodermatitis, major depression, schizophrenia, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which are sometimes referred to as stress-related disorders. The notion that stress contributes somehow to onset or progression of these disorders does not indicate how strong the influence of stress is compared to other important contributing factors, such as genetic predisposition or organic diseases. This is particularly relevant in reference to three clinical conditions: adult atopic dermatitis, adult seborrheic dermatitis, and adult psoriasis. The impact of neurodermatitis on sexual function is of interest because the disease can limit a person's ability to perform essential life tasks and social roles. Moreover, sexual dysfunction may also cause significant personal distress and negatively impact quality of life (Thaipisuttikul, 1998; Abeck, 2005; Chuh et al, 2006; Burgin, 2008). In our study, we used the DLQI to evaluate the quality of life of patients. The mean DLQI score of 11.95 is similar to the mean scores of 11.20 and 10.53 reported for atopic dermatitis and psoriasis, respectively (Basra et al, 2008). The scores on question 9 of the DLQI showed that neurodermatitis affected sexual function in our patients. Consistent with this observation, previous studies have revealed a higher prevalence of sexual dysfunction in patients with chronic pain (Monga et al, 1998; Ambler et al, 2001). Sexual dysfunction in female patients with fibromyalgia has been demonstrated (Tikiz et al, 2005), and sexual status and erectile dysfunction in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease have been suggested (Koseoglu et al, 2005). Sexual dysfunction studies on other systemic diseases, such as diabetes mellitus, chronic liver disease, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, epilepsy, chronic renal failure, and multiple sclerosis have also been performed (Ermertcan, 2009). Atopic dermatitis is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease that is characterized by intense pruritus and eczematous lesions.17 The Th2 cytokines IL-4 and IL-13 are key drivers involved with the underlying inflammatory process.1 Video Center von Bubnoff D “Precision” Public Health — Between Novelty and Hype  M. It is associated with a variety of psychologic problems, including demoralization, depression, anxiety, obsessive‐compulsive disorder, and sleep disturbances. Coexistence of sexual dysfunction, especially in women, with several systemic diseases has gained interest in recent years. In this study, we evaluated sexual function in female patients with neurodermatitis. We enrolled 89 women (43 patients, 46 controls) in the study. Quality of life was assessed with the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) was used to determine sexual function. Individuals with psychiatric disorders and/or those using antidepressants were excluded. The total DLQI score was 11.95 ± 5.65 in patients with neurodermatitis. The total FSFI score was significantly lower in patients compared with healthy controls (22.76 ± 5.31 and 28.83 ± 3.50, respectively; P = .001). Domain scores of FSFI (desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, and satisfaction) except pain were significantly lower in patients with neurodermatitis (P = .001). The pain score was also lower in patients than controls, but the difference was not statistically significant (P = .073). Neurodermatitis may be associated with sexual dysfunction, and patients with neurodermatitis should be evaluated with regard to sexual function to provide a better quality of life.
