Diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue (dermatology) Lichen simplex chronicus – neurodermatitis treatment The Lancet Journals Lichen simplex chronicus, also known as neurodermatitis circumscripta, is a very common chronic skin disease (present in up to 12% of the population) that is more often seen in women (Thaipisuttikul, 1998; Burgin, 2008; Stander and Metze, 2009). It is associated with a variety of psychologic problems, including demoralization, depression, anxiety, obsessive‐compulsive disorder, and sleep disturbances (Burgin, 2008). It may also have negative effects on the patient's quality of life (Abeck, 2005; Chuh et al, 2006). There are few reports about sexual function disorders associated with skin diseases (Türel Ermertcan et al, 2006; Ergun et al, 2007; Sukan and Maner, 2007; Mercan et al, 2008; Ermertcan, 2009). In this study, we compared the sexual function in female patients with neurodermatitis with that in healthy controls. Some authors question whether such antigens can also be absorbed from the gut (eg, from food) and/or the lungs (eg, from house dust mites). Xerosis and ichthyosis are known to be associated signs in many AD patients. Clinically, 37-50% of people with ichthyosis vulgaris have atopic disease and up to 37% of people with AD have clinical evidence of ichthyosis vulgaris. Mutations in the gene encoding filaggrin, a key epidermal barrier protein, cause ichthyosis vulgaris and are the strongest known genetic risk factors for the development of AD. [18, 19]   3. The itch typically begins during a stressful period and lasts after the stress subsides. Compliance Emergency Medicine In our study, we evaluated sexual function using question 9 of the DLQI and the FSFI. According to question 9 of the DLQI, sexual function was affected in our patients with neurodermatitis. When we looked at the total and individual scores from the FSFI, the total score was significantly decreased in female patients with neurodermatitis compared with that in controls. Analyses of each domain showed that scores for desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, and satisfaction were significantly decreased in these patients. The pain score was also lower in the patient group than in the control group, although the difference was not statistically significant. As observed in Niemeier et al (1997) and Mercan et al (2008), we conclude that neurodermatitis often results in sexual dysfunction. We also conclude that neurodermatitis has effects particularly on the desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, and satisfaction components of sexual function in female patients.
