The skin may become thickened and hyperpigmented (lichenified) as a direct result of chronic exoriation.[3] Typically this period of increased scratching is associated with stressors. A. Atopic Dermatitis The skin disease is based on a hereditary predisposition. The symptoms appear in the first five years of life in 85% of cases. In atopic dermatitis the condition of the skin is constantly changing. The symptoms can appear simultaneously or in varying degrees.  Thestrup-Pedersen K NEURODERMATITIS – WHAT IS IT? In the skin of patients decrease in number of Langerhans cells and reduction of HLA-DR antigen expression on them, increase of the number of Langerhans cells with IgE-receptors are detected. From the immune disorders elevated levels of serum IgE are observed that is believed to be genetically determined, although this sign is not observed in all patients with neurodermatitis; the lack of T-lymphocytes, especially having suppressor properties, is caused probably by defective beta-adrenergic receptors. The number of B-cells is normal, but there is a slight increase in the number of B-lymphocytes, bearing receptors for Fc-fragment of IgE. Neutrophilic chemotaxis, a function of natural killer cells, production of interleukin-1 by monocytes of patients in comparison with control observations are reduced. The presence of immune system defect serves apparently as one of the major causes of patients’ susceptibility to infectious diseases. Pathogenetic importance of non-bacterial allergy on allergens of an infectious origin is shown. Neurovegetative disturbances are given with both etiological and aggravating significances in the course of the disease. Chase JM Feedback See Clinical Presentation for more detail. It is associated with a variety of psychologic problems, including demoralization, depression, anxiety, obsessive‐compulsive disorder, and sleep disturbances. Coexistence of sexual dysfunction, especially in women, with several systemic diseases has gained interest in recent years. In this study, we evaluated sexual function in female patients with neurodermatitis. We enrolled 89 women (43 patients, 46 controls) in the study. Quality of life was assessed with the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) was used to determine sexual function. Individuals with psychiatric disorders and/or those using antidepressants were excluded. The total DLQI score was 11.95 ± 5.65 in patients with neurodermatitis. The total FSFI score was significantly lower in patients compared with healthy controls (22.76 ± 5.31 and 28.83 ± 3.50, respectively; P = .001). Domain scores of FSFI (desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, and satisfaction) except pain were significantly lower in patients with neurodermatitis (P = .001). The pain score was also lower in patients than controls, but the difference was not statistically significant (P = .073). Neurodermatitis may be associated with sexual dysfunction, and patients with neurodermatitis should be evaluated with regard to sexual function to provide a better quality of life.
