The Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) was used to assess sexual function. It is a self‐reported measure of sexual function that has been validated on a clinically diagnosed sample of women with female sexual arousal disorder. The questionnaire is composed of 19 items divided into 6 domains that include desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain. Each item is scored on a scale of 0 (or 1) to 5 (range for items 1, 2, 15, and 16 is 1–5), and each domain is scored with the total of the items (maximum scores 10–20) (Rosen et al, 2000). Higher scores indicate better function, and a domain score of zero indicates no sexual activity during the past month.

However, scratching the area increases the itching and the patient eventually starts scratching subconsciously out of habit. This whole process of chronic scratching results in the skin becoming thick and leathery in appearance. Although neurodermatitis is not a fatal condition, it is quite difficult to break the itch-scratch cycle which it has. Quality of life scales and sexual function scales applied to both women and men (eg, ASEX) have been used in current publications. General health questionnaires and dermatology‐specific quality of life scales may have some questions about sexual life, but they do not specifically evaluate sexual problems. Because female and male sexual functions are physiologically different entities, gender‐specific sexual function scales, such as FSFI and International Index of Erectile Function Questionnaire (IIEF) are preferred (Ermertcan, 2009).

Underlying dermatologic conditions may be present and require clinical and/or laboratory diagnosis, as follows:
Mantenga su piel humectada usando ungüentos (como la vaselina), cremas o lociones 2 a 3 veces al día. Escoja productos para la piel que NO contengan alcohol, fragancias, tintes u otros químicos. Un humidificador en el hogar para mantener el aire húmedo también ayudará.

Neurodermatitis is a chronic, severely pruritic disorder characterized by 1 or more lichenified plaques in which the skin is thickened and there are accentuated skin markings. It affects adults, predominantly from ages 30 to 50 years. Women are affected more commonly than men. It may lead to demoralization, sleep disturbances, anxiety, depression, obsessive‐compulsive disorder, and distress through its impact on the patient’s well‐being (Burgin, 2008). If the patient suffers from psychologic problems, the lesions are more likely to be persistent (Stander and Metze, 2009). Whether emotional factors are secondary to the primary dermatologic disease or they are primary and causative (altering perception of itch) is unclear. It has been postulated that neurotransmitters that affect mood, such as dopamine, serotonin, and opioid peptides, modulate perception of itch via descending spinal pathways (Burgin, 2008).

Although not psoriasiform, mention is made of a recently described entity that clinically resembles lichen simplex chronicus or lichen amyloidosus but which has no histological similarities at all – pretibial pruritic papular dermatitis. The authors of that paper proposed that it was a response to chronic rubbing, possibly with other contributing factors such as xerosis, contact with irritants, and emotional distress. The lesions were red to flesh colored, pruritic papules 3–8 mm in diameter. There was a cobblestone appearance in some later lesions. Lesions were unilateral in 33/44 cases and bilateral in 11/44. The histology showed mild compact orthokeratosis, flattening of the rete ridges, superficial dermal fibrosis, and a mild to moderate superficial and mid-dermal infiltrate of lymphocytes, histiocytes and a few eosinophils. Stellate cells were present, probably a reflection of scratching. The published photomicrographs show some resemblance to pigmented purpuric dermatosis but there was no hemosiderin.

En el adulto se ven estas irritaciones en cara y cuerpo. Aun así, sea adulto o niño, estas alteraciones se acompañan de un picor más o menos intenso y de posibles lesiones de rascado.

  7. Treatment is aimed at reducing itching and minimizing existing lesions because rubbing and scratching exacerbate LSC. The itching and inflammation may be treated with a lotions or steroid cream (such as triamcinolone or Betamethasone) applied to the affected area of the skin.[7] Nighttime scratching can be reduced with sedatives and antihistamines.[2] SSRIs can effectively reduce the scratching associated with obsessive psychosomatic behaviors.
