Sunless tanning preparations may be used to darken the vitiligo a more acceptable color. These will cover small areas of vitiligo well. Micropigmentation (tattooing) is rarely recommended. It works best for the lip area, particularly in people with dark skin; however, it is difficult to perfectly match the skin, and tends to look worse over time. For loss of pigment over more than half of the exposed areas of the body, depigmentation therapy can be considered. This is the permanent (or nearly permanent) bleaching out of all pigmentation. The remaining skin will be an even white color, which can then be covered with the cosmetics.

Vitiligo: Overview Organic and Natural What kinds of treatments have been effective for your vitiligo?
Vitiligo is a common inflammatory skin disease with a worldwide prevalence of 0.5% to 2.0% of the population. In the pediatric population, the exact prevalence of vitiligo is unknown, although many studies state that most cases of vitiligo are acquired early in life. The disease is disfiguring, with a major psychological impact on children and their parents. Half of vitiligo cases have a childhood onset, needing thus a treatment approach that will minimize treatment side effects while avoiding psychological impacts. Management of vitiligo should take into account several factors, including extension, psychological impact, and possible associations with other autoimmune diseases. This review discusses the epidemiology of vitiligo and outlines the various clinical presentations associated with the disorder and their differential diagnosis. In addition, the pathophysiology and genetic determinants, the psychological impact of vitiligo, and management strategies are reviewed.

This skin condition is commonly found among adolescents and young adults, while it frequently appears in adults when they visit warm and humid climates.

Many of these genes are also involved in immune system function or melanocyte biology, and variations in each likely make only a small contribution to vitiligo risk. Some of the gene changes associated with an increased risk of vitiligo have also been associated with an increased risk of other autoimmune conditions.
