The mechanism of action is unknown, although UVB light reduces DNA synthesis and can induce mild systemic immunosuppression. In PUVA, oral methoxypsoralen, a photosensitizer, is followed by exposure to long-wave UVA light (330 to 360 nm). PUVA has an antiproliferative effect and also helps to normalize keratinocyte differentiation. Doses of light are started low and increased as tolerated. Severe burns can result if the dose of drug or UVA is too high.

The good news is that patients can treat some of the signs and symptoms of psoriasis with simple measures. For example, regular use of moisturizers may improve the itching and scaling. Reducing or limiting tobacco use and alcohol consumption may decrease the number of flares of psoriasis. Lifestyle changes—such as maintaining a healthy weight and being physically active—may help lessen or prevent the development of associated diseases.

Games NLM Create an account To further investigate the influence of participants’ sociodemographic and socioeconomic characteristics on the RIS, multivariate linear regression analysis was performed. In these models, the RIS for each attribute was used as the dependent variable, and age, sex, marital status, income, and PASI and DLQI were included as independent variables. Working status was not included in the regression analyses because of possible multicollinearity (working status was highly correlated with income). A model was created for each treatment attribute using the function RIS  =   β0  +   β1 sex  +   β2 age  +   β3 marital status  +   β4 income  +   β5 PASI  +   β6 DLQI, with β0 as a constant for neglected factors and β1-6 as the coefficients to be estimated.34 β indicates how the value of the RIS changes when one of the independent variables is changed and the other independent variables are held constant. Standardized regression coefficients were calculated and reported to enable comparison of the effect of each independent variable on the RIS, although different measurement units were used for the independent variables. Significance was again assessed at P   ≤  .05.

It may sound too simple, but exercise and drinking plenty of water are two easy and effective ways to help heal psoriasis. When it comes to bathing, you definitely don’t want to use water that’s too hot because this can further dry and inflame your skin. Soaking in a lukewarm bath containing dead sea salts, Epsom salt or oats for around 15 minutes can help remove scales and calm itching. Be sure to apply moisturizer to your skin as soon as you get out of a bath or shower — this way you can seal some water into your skin, which can help to calm and heal psoriasis patches.

COMMENTS Light therapy involves exposing your skin to ultraviolet light under the supervision of a doctor. Ultraviolet light can help slow the growth of skin cells triggered by psoriasis. This type of therapy often requires consistent and frequent sessions. It should be noted that tanning beds are not a means of achieving light therapy. Too much sunlight can actually worsen psoriasis. Light therapy should always be done under the supervision of a doctor.

Terms of Use It is important to have a regular schedule with eczema care that includes bathing with a gentle cleanser and moisturizing to lock water into the skin. Moisturized skin helps control flares by combatting dryness and keeping out irritants and allergens.
Avoid too much bathing and hand washing. It will dry out your skin. Steer clear of alcohol-based hand cleaners, too. There is no cure for eczema but there are treatments, and more are coming. Depending on the type of eczema and severity, treatments include lifestyle changes, over-the-counter (OTC) remedies, prescription topical, oral and injectable medications, phototherapy and biologic drugs.
Types of Eczema Living Well Water can be one of the best forms of eczema therapy — but only if you bathe or shower properly
Know your triggers. Many people with eczema react to allergens such as pollen, dust mites, animal dander, and mold. If the moisturizer feels “tacky” on your skin, don’t remove the excess. It will be absorbed within a few minutes.
Remember that eczema symptoms can be different for everyone. Not everyone will respond to a treatment in the same way, so it’s best to familiarize yourself with all of the options and talk to your doctor to find a treatment regimen that works for you.
Moisturizers are classified based on the amount of oil and water they contain. The more oil in a moisturizer, the better it usually is at treating eczema. The best moisturizers to use are the ones that feel “greasy” (ointments and creams), because they contain more oil. These are very effective at keeping moisture in and irritants out.
