Rosebay Poisoning Lichen simplex chronicus (lie-KEN SIM-plex kronik-CUS) is also known as neurodermatitis because it’s considered a neurological skin disorder fueled by the itch-scratch cycle. Lichen simplex chronicus (neurodermatitis) appears in patches on the neck, scalp, shoulders, feet, ankles, wrists and hands. The affected patch of skin becomes thick, leathery and even itchier the more it is rubbed or scratched as a result of irritated nerve endings in the skin.

PMC The diagnosis of lichen simplex chronicus is usually obvious in patients who have a localized itching plaque of chronic dermatitis. Chronic contact dermatitis should be considered from a topical medicine used to treat the symptoms. Several more serious “psychodermatoses” are habitual (neurotic) excoriations, factitious dermatitis, and delusions of parasitosis.

Collaborations and top research areas from the last five years The causes of neurodermatitis are many and varied. Genetic predisposition, environmental factors as well as inflammation taking place in the skin play a role. This reduced skin barrier is caused by a deficiency, an imbalance or defective functioning of substances (e.g. proteins or fats) that are responsible for the formation of the upper layer of the skin. As a result, more water evaporates and the skin becomes dry. In addition, the skin becomes more permeable to allergens and other environmental substances. These can trigger inflammatory reactions.

All lesions in the patients were localized on their backs, where neurodermatitis lesions are commonly seen. We wanted to eliminate the localization factor from sexual function and evaluate the impacts of this skin disease alone on sexual function. Therefore, patients with anogenital localization were excluded from this study. Routine blood count, biochemistry, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and urinalysis were performed for each participant. The functional integrity of the hypothalamo‐pituitary‐gonadal axis was examined in all participants by measuring the levels of follicle‐stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, estradiol, free testosterone, prolactin, and sex hormone–binding globulin. Participants suffering from pulmonary, hepatic, hematologic, renal, and endocrine diseases such as diabetes mellitus, as well as thyroid function disorders and inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, were excluded from the study. Other exclusion criteria included pregnancy and gynecologic and systemic disorders that might affect female sexual function such as hormonal, muscular, neurologic, or cardiovascular diseases and psychologic disorders. Participants on antidepressants and other drugs that are known to interfere with sexual function and postmenopausal women receiving oral or vaginal estrogen therapy for the prevention of climacteric symptoms or vaginal dryness were also excluded from the study.

Lichen simplex is a localised area of chronic, lichenified eczema/dermatitis. There may be a single or multiple plaques. It is also called neurodermatitis. An article in a medical journal shows that addressing the psychological issue can be effective. This story begins with a 60-year-old woman who saw a dermatologist because she had an intensely itchy patch on her scalp. At times, her scalp itched so severely that she scratched the area until it bled. After 2 years of scratching, the itchy patch on her scalp was completely bald.
