Community programs & events There is no cure for seborrheic dermatitis but there are treatments that can help reduce the frequency and severity of flares. In other words, appropriate treatment, can help make it appear that patients have minor disease or no disease at all. However, periodic use of anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory agents may be needed to keep the condition under control. 
For the scalp: Alternate between using your regular shampoo and a medicated dandruff shampoo. If you are African American, wash with the medicated shampoo once weekly. Taper off as your symptoms improve.

There is no test for diagnosing seborrheic dermatitis. Your doctor will ask about your medical history and also perform a physical examination of your skin.
