Diagnosis of Athlete’s Foot 中文 For athlete’s foot where the skin conditions are moist: this requires a different treatment. Wash your feet in water as cold as you can bear (hot water only makes your feet fungus-friendly) then dry them thoroughly after washing, preferably with a separate towel or even kitchen roll. It is important to dab your feet dry rather than rub them, as rubbing tends to take away any healing skin. Although the skin may appear flaky and dry, never use moisturiser between your toes, and avoid powders as they can cake up and irritate skin. A spirit-based preparation such as surgical spirit can help (it’s cooling, soothing and antiseptic). This may sting a little but will evaporate the moisture and allow the skin to heal. Only use on unbroken skin.

There is no known cure for skin lichen planus, but treatment is often effective in relieving itching and improving the appearance of the rash until it goes away. Since every case of lichen planus is different, no one treatment does the job. Topical corticosteroids are very useful. Antihistamines may be prescribed to relieve itching. Extensive cases may require the use of oral corticosteroid (cortisone, prednisone) for a number of weeks. This usually shortens the duration of the outbreak. For severe cases powerful treatments include photo chemotherapy light treatment (PUVA), the retinoids drugs (Soriatane and Accutane), cyclosporine and hydroxychloroquine.

Saliva samples from the OLP and control groups were pooled using an equal amount of protein from each sample within each group. Representative gels from the OLP and healthy control groups are shown in Fig. 1. Over 100 protein spots were detected on Coomassie Blue-stained gels; image analysis identified 31 protein spots that exhibited ≥1.5-fold difference in abundance or were found exclusively in either the OLP or healthy control groups. Of these 31 protein spots, 14 protein spots (likely representing nine or 10 unique proteins) were found in both the OLP and healthy control groups (Table 2). Two spots (numbers 135 and 152) could not be identified as either a cystatin S precursor or cystatin SA. In addition, 11 protein spots (representing seven unique proteins) were detected only in the OLP group (Table 3), and six other protein spots (representing five unique proteins) were present only in the healthy control group (Table 4). In the 14 matched protein spots that were found in both the OLP and healthy control groups, seven protein spots (representing six unique proteins) exhibited increased expression in the OLP group, whereas seven other protein spots (likely representing three or four unique proteins) exhibited decreased expression in the OLP group.

The most commonly used agents for the treatment of OLP are topical corticosteroids.1 Intralesional and systemic corticosteroids are also used. Topical and systemic medications include immunosuppressants, such as cyclosporine and tacrolimus, and topical or systemic retinoids.10 The treatment of refractory disease has also been approached with other agents, including thalidomide11 and even nonpharmacologic agents such as psoralen–UV-A.12

19935485 Some studies have revealed a prevalence of viral infections in oral lichen planus (eg, hepatitis C virus [HCV]). Some studies report human papillomavirus (HPV) types 6, 11, 16, or 18. [22, 23] Dysplastic oral lichen planus lesions had a higher prevalence of HPV-16 compared with nondysplastic oral lichen planus lesions. Some study findings suggest an association between oral lichen planus and chronic hepatic diseases such as HCV infection, autoimmune chronic active hepatitis, and primary biliary cirrhosis. [24, 25] This association probably reflects the geographic distribution of HCV disease and lichenoid reactions to various drug therapies (eg, interferon-alfa for HCV disease, penicillamine for primary biliary cirrhosis). Oral lichen planus is associated with HCV infection and liver disease in parts of Japan and southern Europe. An association between oral lichen planus and HCV infection has not been detected in British, French, German, Scandinavian, or American patients.

It is normally applied to dry skin and washed off after 10 minutes, repeated daily for two weeks. Ciclopirox (Ciclopirox olamine) is an alternative treatment to ketoconazole, as it suppresses growth of the yeast Malassezia furfur. Initial results show similar efficacy to ketoconazole with a relative increase in subjective symptom relief due to its inherent anti-inflammatory properties.[15] Other topical antifungal agents such as clotrimazole, miconazole, terbinafine, or zinc pyrithione can lessen symptoms in some patients.[16] Additionally, hydrogen peroxide has been known to lessen symptoms and, on certain occasions, remove the problem, although permanent scarring has occurred with this treatment in some sufferers.[citation needed] Clotrimazole is also used combined with selenium sulfide.

Tinea versicolor is a condition characterized by a skin eruption on the trunk and proximal extremities.[1] The majority of tinea versicolor is caused by the fungus Malassezia globosa, although Malassezia furfur is responsible for a small number of cases.[2][3] These yeasts are normally found on the human skin and become troublesome only under certain circumstances, such as a warm and humid environment, although the exact conditions that cause initiation of the disease process are poorly understood.[2][4]
No obstante, la mayor parte de las personas con esta condición son perfectamente sanas.

Although it may seem like a temporary condition, sunburn – a result of skin receiving too much exposure from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays – can cause long-lasting damage to the skin. This damage increases a person’s risk for getting skin cancer, making it critical to protect the skin from the sun.

How long will a sunburn last? “Depending on the severity, the redness can persist anywhere from a few days to weeks,” says Feely. As time goes on, you can also expect bad burns to result in peeling skin. And while (for some at least) nothing is more satisfying than gently lifting away a ginormous layer of skin without breaking it, that satisfaction doesn’t outweigh the detriment to the skin. Do not pull on your peeling skin. In fact, try wearing loose-fitting clothing in the days following a sunburn to prevent the fabric from rubbing and irritating the already-sensitive area.

PUVA is a special treatment using a photosensitizing drug and timed artificial-light exposure composed of wavelengths of ultraviolet light in the UVA spectrum. The photosensitizing drug in PUVA is called psoralen. Both the psoralen and the UVA light must be administered within one hour of each other for a response to occur. These treatments are usually given in a physician’s office two to three times per week. Several weeks of PUVA is usually required before seeing significant results. The light exposure time is gradually increased during each subsequent treatment. Psoralens may be given orally as a pill or topically as a bath or lotion. After a short incubation period, the skin is exposed to a special wavelength of ultraviolet light called UVA. Patients using PUVA are generally sun sensitive and must avoid sun exposure for a period of time after PUVA. Common side effects with PUVA include burning, aging of the skin, increased brown spots called lentigines, and an increased risk of skin cancer, including melanoma. The relative increase in skin cancer risk with PUVA treatment is controversial. PUVA treatments need to be closely monitored by a physician and discontinued when a maximum number of treatments have been reached.

[35, 37] A prospective study of 1380 patients found a strong correlation between number of PUVA treatments and risk of developing one or more SCC. According to the study, exposure to more than 350 PUVA treatments greatly increases the risk of SCC. [40]

Relative importance scores (RISs) for each attribute were calculated. The effect of sociodemographic (age, sex, and marital status) and socioeconomic (income and employment) characteristics and Psoriasis Area and Severity Index and Dermatology Life Quality Index scores on preferences was assessed using analysis of variance, post hoc testing, and multivariate regression analysis.
Patients with psoriasis should avoid injury to skin, including sunburn and other physical trauma, as these areas may develop psoriasis. The appearance of psoriatic lesions in previously uninvolved areas after irritation or trauma is known as the Köbner phenomenon. Patients with psoriasis should also, when feasible, avoid drugs known to worsen the problem (eg, chloroquine, beta-blockers, aspirin or other NSAIDs). They should also avoid alcohol to excess. An association has been made between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and moderate-to-severe psoriasis. What is related to treatment and what is related to psoriasis itself is still being studied. [45]
Other Conditions We Treat Due to the association between psoriasis and metabolic syndrome, weight loss, smoking cessation, moderation of alcohol intake, and blood pressure control may also lead to improvements in skin disease [1,2].
